In June this year historian Dr Jill Liddington, who has written a number of books about the suffragette movement, gave a talk about three votes for women campaigners from Leeds – Isabella Ford, Mary Gawthorpe and Leonora Cohen. She was speaking at an event to mark the centenary of the Leeds Convention of June 1917, where 3,500 democrats and socialists hailed the Russian Revolution and demanded an end to the First World War.
