We were saddened to hear of the death of Ellen Malos. As well as her notable campaigning and research work on domestic violence, she was also a trustee of our sister archive, Feminist Archive South, for many years. We pay homage to the passing of a feminist pioneer.
A powerful legacy
We want to thank everyone who came to Jalna’s celebration yesterday, and also those who couldn’t come but sent messages. It was wonderful to hear so many women talking about the impact Jalna had on their lives, and about her determination to hold those in power to account – all interspersed with many funny stories of her tenacity and doggedness. Her life of feminist activism has left a powerful legacy.
Were you part of the Merseyside Women’s Movement?
A student at Liverpool University is conducting oral history interviews for a PhD project about the Merseyside Women’s Movement during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. She is looking for people who were involved in women’s activism during any of these decades, including but not limited to: feminism, community action, trade unions, local government/politics, education, health, arts and culture.
If you’re interested in participating, or would like more information about the project, please contact Rachel Collett at rachel.collett@liverpool.ac.uk
